Welcome to the green book. This book was hand sewn and illustrated on May 15/16, 2010. Using left over upholstery fabric gleaned for my mother, scraps of printmaking paper and linen thread, I made this simple sketchbook. All the pages were illustrated in one afternoon, using walnut ink and an old Richeson #4 round brush. They depict scenes of both Mt. Tabor park and Vibe of Portland's Come Gather Round Us benefit concert at the Taborspace.
The intentional use of brushed ink on thin Japanese paper, with its tendency to soak through and be absorbed by sequential pages, is suggestive of connectedness, of transparency and of frailty.
My thanks to Catherine Feeny, Sebastian Rogers and friends for making beautiful music, and to Vibe of Portland for remembering that education in the arts is still important.
